Why buying online here has no basket
A black truffle is a single piece with its own weight. Selling it like a packet of fixed size would mean cutting pieces to fit, and a cut piece loses most of its value.
So the order works the other way round. You say roughly what you want, and we say exactly what we have.
The three steps of an online order
The whole process is three steps, and payment is the last one.
- You send the grade, the approximate weight and the date, through the contact form.
- We reply with the pieces the current harvest holds, their real weight and the price.
- You confirm, and only then is the order paid and prepared.
How much to order online for a household
The grower describes the private order the way he hears it: people buy to a figure. Someone says what they want to spend, and the order is built to that.
From that figure it is clear whether it comes out as one piece or two, always inside the grade you have chosen and never mixing grades to reach the number. In practice the orders land around 50 to 100 grams, sometimes 150, sometimes a little under 50.
That is enough for several meals: grated finely, a few grams per person flavour a plate of pasta or eggs. Kept properly, a fresh piece is at its best in the first ten to fifteen days out of the ground.
Which grade to pick when ordering online
Extra is the regular, globose piece, firm and free of surface damage. First has small defects of shape, colour or skin that do not affect its quality; Second’s are more marked.
If the piece is going to be grated or sliced into a dish, none of those defects reaches the plate, and First or Second costs less. Extra is for when the whole piece will be seen.
What is confirmed before you pay
Three things: the species, the grade and the real weight of each piece. The destination is settled at the same time, because fresh black truffle is perishable and not every route is possible.
No weight is charged that you have not agreed to, and an order is never made up with trimmings to reach a number.
